Cybercriminals are targeting unsecured Veeam backup servers that are publicly exposed on the internet. Veeam is a popular software used by enterprises to manage and protect their data backups. Attackers are using a known vulnerability in Veeam Backup & Replication software to gain unauthorized access to the servers and deploy malware, ransomware or steal sensitive information. Security researchers have identified that thousands of vulnerable servers are still exposed online and recommend that enterprises ensure their Veeam servers are properly secured behind a firewall and accessible only through secure VPN connections.
