Point-of-Sale System Attack Campaign Hits More Than 40 Retailers

(January 30, 2014)

Point-of-sale (POS) malware has been discovered that was used to steal 50,000 customer's payment card and personal information from over 40 retailers. This malware logs all keystrokes and reads process memory to extract magnetic-stripe data, which is sent through the Tor anonymity network to the attacker's server. Customers that believe they may have been affected should monitor their statements for fraudulent charges and sign up for a credit monitoring service.
